A Windmill Winery Twisted Tree Wedding

A 12 year old boy was walking through the school yard when he found something shiny lying in the wood chips. He picked it up and dusted it off to find it was a small key chain.  It was a letter R and he could see where the chain had broken which explained why it was on the ground.  After cleaning and fixing it, he attached it to his backpack. For the next 6 months that letter R went wherever he did.  It became part of his everyday life.

One day as he was walking, he heard a soft and gentle, but angry girl say, “Hey! That’s my keychain!” He paused for a second and knew exactly what she was talking about.  She explained how it was her keychain and she wanted it back.  He was hoping he wouldn’t have to give it up, but in the end he handed it back to her.  Little did he know ten years later he’d be giving her his last name!

Jesse says, “As these past ten years have blasted by, I’ve come to realize that though I was upset about losing that keychain, a seed was planted that day.  It would bring me a million times more happiness than that silly old piece of metal ever could. As Bekah and I have grown together, I’ve seen love, adventure, happiness, and growth more than I ever could have fathomed. She inspires me.  She makes me want to be better, love stronger and be the best man I can be.  She inspires me to be compassionate and caring, to be strong and to have integrity, and to work hard and to see the good in every situation. Above all, she is proof that there is a God who loves me and gives good gifts.  She can keep the keychain, I’ll take her over it any day.”

Bekah says, “When I look back at every smile, every wink, and every hand held; those are what I cherish most about our relationship.  The first time I saw Jesse play the drums at his church, my heart exploded watching him worship with that little smirk on his face. He is the kind of man that will lead us spiritually the rest of our lives. Throughout these years, God has continued to show us that we are supposed to be together. He is my best friend and I wouldn’t want anyone else next to me besides him.”

Bekah and Jesse celebrated their love by having their wedding at Windmill Winery.  Hanging from the twisted tree was a chandelier and strands of flowers.  Under the tree was a wine barrel.  Communion sat on top along with a wine box that held a bottle of wine.  Bekah and Jesse also wrote a letter to each other and put it in the box.  If they’re ever in a time or trial where they need to be reminded of how much they love each other, they can sit together, drink the wine and read the letters. They plan to fill this box every five years with a new bottle of wine and new letters.

Bekah and Jesse were able to partake in their first communion during the ceremony while guests enjoyed a song being played on guitar by one of the groomsmen and the lyrics being sung by one of the bridesmaids.  As the officiant pronounced them husband and wife, the guests threw dried lavender petals into the air.

Jesse’s parents brought along their red classic car, so we made sure to get a few pictures with that.  Then we headed off for sunset portraits in the winery.  The guests enjoyed fun music by Arizona’s DJ Entertainment.  They had so much fun singing to “Jesse’s Girl” that they all lit up the dance floor with their cell phone lights!  Enjoy a few of my favorites from their day! xo
